Odisha's brazier has an unique identity not only in national level but in worldwide too. In states like Assam and West Bengal; and county like Shrilanka, Indonesia, China, Japan etc. braziers of Odisha have created a strongest image; in which the role of braziers of Balakati is admirable in establishing a non-defeated metallic industry.
Near the bank of Bhargabee river of Balakati, the brazier community used to live since hundred years ago. Especially a village called Rathijema is the birthplace of these skilled braziers. This village is further divided into four villages like charimania, Nua Sahi, Tirisi ghara and Ashi Ghara. These villagers have their own factory in in their backyard. More than 2000 people have depended on this profession. Apart from Balakati, there are places like Bainchua, Hirapur and many where the brass bell-metal work is the most common and admirable profession.
The process is like they melt the coal with metal as the quantity needed. After that, they made the shapes of statue, utensils, bell, cymbal, domestic utility products and so on.
In 1955, the 1st president of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad had visited Balakati. He had planned of establishing a brass-metal factory with a training center. But due to some cause if couldn't took place. Since the braziers, Balakati and its brass-metal work is very much famous not only in our country but outside the country too.
