93 Crore 10 Lakhs Tonnes Of Food Was Wasted In Only 2019

According to the latest United Nations Food Waste Index-2021 released by the United Nations, 43.1 million tonnes of food was wasted worldwide in 2017.  That's 18 percent of the total food available.  The highest percentage of food waste is 41 percent.  After that, 26 percent of food was destroyed, including 13 percent in hotels and other places.

Afghanistan tops the list with 42 kilograms of food waste per capita each year.  In addition, 50 kilograms of food are wasted every year.  This is a problem in almost all income group countries.

However, on the one hand, we throw away the leftover food at our house, hotel or any other wedding ceremony.  On the other hand, there are people who do not even get two days' worth of food.  In our Indian culture, food is a form of Goddess Lakshmi.

Therefore, in our time, food wastage was considered a sin.  According to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture, the UK is unable to produce as much rice as we are losing in one year.  Although India is a self-sufficient nation in terms of food production, the number of hungry people in our country is higher than in China.  It has the highest number of children.  About five crore children can be saved by saving money in the country due to food waste.

Saving food and using it is not a difficult task.  Everyone can save it easily.  No strict rules are required for this.  Everyone can easily change their mindset and save on food.  There must be willpower for this.

In addition, we need to reflect on our values, culture and traditions and improve our practices.
