According to our typical Indian thought, only son will save the family. As per that rule parents always wanted to have a boy. If it doesn't happens, they produced the girls unless a boy has not taken birth. If it does so parent's first priority always goes to the son. And if it doesn't so girls are always treated as an asset.
From an initial stage, parents had taught their daughter about what is her limitations, what should do and what shouldn't. Mostly in rural areas saying something is a sin for women.
Gender difference is based on the roles one plays in the society. Men will perform certain tasks in the society in which women will not allowed to do so. This is not natural rather created, constructed by man to dominate woman. Slowly the society ascribes certain tasks to girls which are not given to boys. For example, girls are taught to be shy, to be beautiful, soft mannered. Boys are taught to be rough, hard, strong and stout. This is a psychological division created by the society.
We live in a patriarchal society where male domination or male superiority in family or in public life prevails. The world is classified into two different domains like public and private life. According to most of the jobs like army, police, transport of heavy vehicles, electrician etc. are given to men only. On the other hand, women are said to be good at home, child caring, maintenance of family relationships etc.
Women have always been exploited by patriarchy society. For example, a girl might be good at fighting but she is not allowed into the army only because she is a girl. Hence, she was not given something for which she is rightly entitled. On the other hand, because she is denied the post, another boy who is not fit, gets it for which he is not entitled. In personal level also we have face same thing. For example, if a father gives two pens to son and one to daughter, the girl is being exploited here.
Impacts of discrimination
- Social:
According to Aristotle, "man is a social animal". We have the right to live freely in the society. But the gender discrimination makes a woman not to live freely. It has pressurized her not to do things that has been set by the society. A woman can't say anything in her family discussion. She has not the right to say what is moral and what is not. Her duty is only to cook and feed others. If she suggests or says no to anything she got the reward of this as bitten by her husband.
- Economical:
A girl/woman is not allowed to be economically independent. If anyhow she is allowed to do job, before 7pm she has to reach home. In workplace also she got less salary as compared to a male employee just because she is a woman.
- Political:
In political zone if a woman stands in election, it is worthless according to the society. She can't runs country. Only she does manage the household and family.
- Education:
Education is now considered as one of the equipment of basic needs to survive. But due to discrimination females are exploited here too. Parents don't allow them to study. If allows then don't let them for higher studies. And get them married as soon as possible.
- Entertainment:
Women are treated as a piece of glamour in the world of entertainment. In films always a hero plays a lead role by using his muscle power. But if a lady plays a lead character nobody goes to the theater and watched the movie. That's why all the women-oriented films like Gulaab Gang, Pink, Thappad etc. got less attention. According to the male-dominated environment, a heroine can't fight.
From the discussion of gender discrimination of male and female, other concepts like justice, liberty, equality has also emerged and questioned about their existence. This discrimination has snatched the freedom from a girl to stand for herself while a man can say anything or whatever he wants. From liberty, another concept took place I.e. inequality. Almighty God created both of them equally. But our society broke it and made them unequal. When there is no liberty and equality, there is absolutely no justice exists. It is purely immoral.
However, education is the strongest weapon to bring discipline in the society. We are in 21 century. We are going to be on the top. Slowly this discrimination is on the way to be smashed. If it is not so then we didn't have Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, Sagarika Nath, Mithali Raj, Mira Nair, Vandana Luthra, Dutee Chand etc. The CM of Odisha has been announced for 33% seat reservation in Odisha assembly for bringing them into running the state. Society is changing day by day. Our responsibility is to aware of others regarding this with proper education. So that one day this word might vanish completely.
