3 Padma Bhushan Winning Artist Of Odisha With Same Surname


Odisha has give birth to numbers of gems. These gems have been presented Odisha with an unique place. Here it talks about three Mohapatras who are  the  awardees of the second highest civilian awards. They are Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, Sitakanta Mahapatra and Raghunath Mohapatra.

Kelucharan Mohapatra

Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, the legendary classical dancer of Odissi dance. He was born on 8 January 1926 at Raghurajpur, Puri district of Odisha. Guru Mohapatra is not only a dancer but a choreographer too whose dance had been sets fire on the stage in 20th century. Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra is the first odia who was honored with Padma Vibhushan.

He is popularly known for his Odissi dance in world wide. But he is also the master of Gotipua, another traditional dance form of India. Guru Mohapatra is so much dedicated to Odissi, Gotipua and Mahari dance. Apart from his dancing career he is also better known for his skilled Pattachitra painting.

Sitakanta Mohapatra

In the world of literature, Sitakanta Mohapatra is a very prominent name. He was born on 17 September 1937 at Kendrapada district of Odisha. Mr. Sitakanta Mohapatra was served in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).

In his literature career he has collection of a travelogue, 15 poetry, 5 essays, more than 30 contemplative works and you numbers of translations.

Mr.Mohapatra's academic sessions was done in Ravenshaw College, Cambridge University, Harvard University etc. His dedications also contributed to Santal tribe and Santali language of Odisha.

Raghunath Mohapatra

Rajya Sabha MP, an architect and a famous sculptor of Odisha is another Mohapatra who presented Odisha at the gate of the world. He is Raghunath Mohapatra. He was born on 24 March 1943 at puri district of Odisha. 

Raghunath is Extremely talented in art and craft. He is a senior instructor and superintendent of Handicraft Training and Designing center, Government of Odisha, Bhubaneswar.

He was nominated by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India as a Member of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
