Meet Mrs KC Rekha, Tha Real Example Of Women Empowerment

Generally fishing indicates to the process where a male person catching fish. A man goes to the deep sea and returns with variety of fish, who always meet the death when they go out. Because these are very risky works and only man can do this. But now the tradition has changed. KC Rekha of Chettuva, Thrissur, Kerala has set the new trend. She has considered as India's first fisherwoman with license.

There was a time where when Rekha's husband P Karthikeyan, who was left high and dry when two of his helpers suddenly quit the job. At that time they were not capable to hire new deckhands. It was time for her to enter on the platform of water. 

With no knowledge of swimming and a tendency for seasickness, Rekha’s first journey was a terrible one. According to her, “The first day was a nightmare. I vomited continuously for three hours until I started coughing up blood. This went on for a few weeks till the seasickness came down and I could sit on the boat properly".

She doesn't know how to swim and other knowledge about ship journey. But now she has the accurate information of paths, repairing and casting the fishing nets, steering their rickety single engine boat through choppy waters and so on. Rekha got a tagline of Fearless Fisherwoman from The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), India's leading Marino research agency. They felicitated her. Rekha became India's first fisherwomen to get a license in India. Now the agency helped them when she and her husband are out for long hours in the deep sea. CMFRI also providing them financial, technical support and scholarship to their. daughters.
