Gotipua is one of the oldest and famous folk dance forms of Odisha. Guru Birabara Sahoo of Indolakusiari village of khordha district, better known for this dance form. Young filmmaker Abhishek Swain has turned the story of this magician of Gotipua Dance into reel life. Plus he added how a dancer suffers in his life by choosing this profession, without any helping hand from the government. He made a short film 'Through the Eyes of an Artist'. Now it will be releasing soon.Abhishek said, “This legendary guru dedicated 8 decades of his life to the ancient dance form of our state. It’s a sheer shame that the Government never offered him or any other Gotipua performers any financial aid despite several letters written to the officials concerned.” This film was completely based on the viewpoint of Master Sahoo. The young filmmaker has tried to draw the government's attention to the needy artists like Birabara Sahoo and his pupils. There are numerous like him who in spite of their immense contribution to such a profession.“I went to Tinkipada village in Balipatana where a group of Gotipua dancers were living. There I met national award-winning Gotipua guru Birabara Sahoo. After knowing about the rich Odia culture, I was deeply fascinated to make a film on the subject. I also got to know that many Gotipua dancers were living in abject poverty and so I wanted to draw the government’s attention to them through this film,” said Abhishek, who had earlier made some short films like ‘Life Drop’, ‘A Daughter’s Letter’ and ‘Few Miles Away’.
